And yet, if truly a choice, and not a requirement of tradition or religion, should I, a non-Muslim choose to wear one, as I can honestly admit to a certain fashion appeal, I am accused of cultural appropriation. Perhaps the answer lies in the evolution of the garment into mainstream, with all of the ridiculous and inventive variations that would come with that, to essentially water down its power.
